The performance explores the distance between the body as image and the body as lived reality.

Historically, the female body has occupied a particular position. It has been highly visible as subject, muse, nude model, ideal and object. Yet being visible is not the same as being understood.

While the female body has held a central place in visual culture, women’s bodies, experiences and biological differences have historically been underrepresented in medical research and institutional knowledge. The work considers this discrepancy between the body observed from the outside and the complexity of the body as it is lived and experienced from within.

Today, understandings of body and gender continue to expand beyond fixed categories. Trans and non-binary perspectives further complicate the question of which bodies are represented, which are understood, and through whose knowledge they are defined.

Covered in white, the body appears almost sculptural — visible as form, yet withholding the complexity of what exists beneath its surface.
